If you've ever needed to provide security footage to the police to help catch someone who committed a crime with a vehicle, you understand how important it is to clearly see the vehicle's license plate. This Avalonix ANPR Camera offers excellent video quality because of its large 1/1.8" 1080P CMOS image sensor. It can film at up to 30 frames per second at full 1080P resolution. This camera allows for digital zoom to help you see details from further away and includes infrared LEDs that provide 80 feet of visibility in complete darkness. It also lets you adjust the infrared intensity or turn it off completely. The camera has Smart IR to avoid overexposing the license plate at night.

To ensure best possible plate capture, install the camera at a choke point where vehicles slow down. An entrance or exit point where there is a gate or speed bump is best. You can manage the camera over a network through a web interface on a Windows PC using MS Edge in IE mode. This interface allows you to mark a zone for the camera to monitor passing vehicles and capture their plates. The camera can save these images and record the plate data to a microSD card or integrate with Avalonix Premium 5000 Series NVR recorders for more comprehensive video recording and data management.

Configuring the camera for night-time use involves adjusting settings based on ambient light, viewing angles, and vehicle speeds. Connect the camera to a network using a PoE injector to access its settings via its built-in web server, then link it to an NVR for extended video recording. It supports a microSD card for temporary video storage.

The camera has a motorized lens ranging from 10–50mm that can be adjusted remotely, and at 2MP resolution, it can clearly show details within 80 feet. It is best used when capturing plates from vehicles passing in one lane. The camera's widest angle of view is 46 degrees at the 10mm setting, which allows for a minimum vehicle distance of 27 feet. Depending on how you set the zoom, the camera can be tuned to best suit your specific needs.

If you intend to use this camera solely as a license plate capture camera it can be set to capture license plates up to 80 feet away. When you zoom in the lens all the way, you'll get a 10 degree view, with a 11 feet wide field of view.

The camera is equipped with ANPR technology, which automatically reads and stores license plate numbers, and attempts to collect other details like vehicle type, brand, and color. However, the accuracy of capturing plate numbers and vehicle details varies with the vehicle's speed and the clarity of the shot, and there is some room for error in detecting the car type and model.
