The Avalonix IPEYE8MP is an 8MP 4K PoE active deterrence IP security camera built for homes and businesses that need more than basic video recording. It combines high-resolution 4K video, SMD Plus human and vehicle motion filtering, AI perimeter protection, full-color low-light viewing, red and blue warning lights, a built-in microphone and speaker, and audible deterrence in one outdoor-rated turret camera.
For a home, the IPEYE8MP is well suited for watching a driveway, front or rear entrance, yard, detached garage, side gate, or other area where knowing whether movement came from a person or vehicle is more useful than receiving a basic motion alert. For a business, it can monitor storefronts, employee entrances, loading areas, parking areas, exterior doors, and other locations where visible and audible deterrence can help call attention to unwanted activity. Businesses planning a larger installation can also browse our business security camera systems for complete multi-camera solutions.

4K Security Camera with an 89 Degree View
The IPEYE8MP uses a 1/2.8-inch 8MP progressive scan CMOS sensor to capture video at resolutions up to 3840 x 2160. Its 3.6mm F1.4 fixed lens provides an 89° horizontal, 46° vertical, and 102° diagonal field of view. This makes it a practical general-purpose camera for monitoring areas where you want a useful combination of scene width and image detail.
At full 4K resolution, the camera supports up to 20 frames per second when its AI functions are enabled. If AI functions are disabled, 4K video can operate at up to 30fps. This is an important distinction when comparing 4K cameras because the highest frame rate and intelligent video functions are not available simultaneously on this model.
The published DORI distances for the 3.6mm lens are approximately 361.8ft Detect, 144.7ft Observe, 72.5ft Recognize, and 36ft Identify. DORI is a standardized method for describing how much visual detail may be available at different distances. These figures should not be confused with the range of the camera's AI detection or interpreted as a face-recognition capability.
SMD Plus Human and Vehicle Motion Detection
One of the most useful capabilities of the IPEYE8MP is SMD Plus, or Smart Motion Detection Plus. Traditional motion detection reacts when portions of the picture change. SMD Plus goes a step further by classifying motion targets so events can focus on people and motor vehicles rather than treating every type of scene movement as equally important.
This can make alerts and recorded-event searches more useful around driveways, entrances, storefronts, parking areas, yards, and other locations. For example, if your main concern is knowing when a person approaches an entrance or a vehicle enters a driveway, SMD Plus can help filter non-target motion events that are less relevant to that goal.
Learn more about how this technology differs from ordinary motion sensing in our guide to Smart Motion Detection for security cameras.
AI Tripwire and Intrusion Detection
SMD Plus is separate from the camera's perimeter protection features. The IPEYE8MP also supports AI tripwire and intrusion detection with human and vehicle classification.
Digital tripwire detection lets you draw a virtual line across part of the camera image. A qualified event can be generated when a person or vehicle crosses that line. This can be useful for driveways, walkways, gates, entrances, property boundaries, and loading areas.
Intrusion detection uses a defined area of the picture instead of a single line. This is useful when you want the camera to watch a particular portion of the scene, such as an area around a business entrance, a restricted area, a section of a parking lot, or a portion of a residential property.
In simple terms, SMD Plus helps classify ordinary motion events by target type, while tripwire and intrusion detection watch specific virtual boundaries and areas. These different tools can be configured based on the type of activity you are trying to detect.
Red and Blue Lights with Active Deterrence
The IPEYE8MP is an active deterrence security camera, meaning it can do more than simply record an event. The camera includes red and blue flashing alert lights, a visible warm white illuminator, and a built-in speaker that can be linked with compatible detection events.
When configured for an applicable event, the camera can flash its lights and play an audible warning to draw attention to itself and let a person know the area is being watched. The built-in speaker provides 11 preset alarm sounds and also supports imported custom voice messages. This gives a home or business owner the ability to use a warning appropriate for the location instead of relying only on a generic siren.
The camera also supports one-tap disarming, allowing configured alarm output, email, audio warning, and light-warning actions to be disabled during selected periods when deterrence actions are not wanted.
Full-Color Low-Light Video with Warm White Illumination
The IPEYE8MP is designed for full-color low-light surveillance. Its F1.4 lens and sensitive 8MP image sensor have a rated minimum illumination of 0.007 lux, allowing the camera to make use of available ambient light.
When more light is required, the camera uses a built-in warm white illuminator rated to 30 meters, or 98.4 feet. Because the illumination is visible rather than infrared, the camera can preserve useful color information at night while also making the camera more noticeable as part of an active deterrence installation.
This makes the IPEYE8MP a good fit for locations where details such as clothing color, vehicle color, and other visible color information are valuable after dark. Customers who specifically need invisible infrared illumination with no visible white light should consider a different style of night vision camera.
120dB WDR for Difficult Lighting
120dB Wide Dynamic Range helps preserve useful detail when bright and dark areas appear in the same picture. This can be especially helpful for a storefront looking toward a bright parking lot, a covered porch looking toward a sunny driveway, or an entrance where strong exterior daylight creates backlighting.
The camera also provides BLC, HLC, 3D noise reduction, scene self-adaptation, configurable white balance, automatic or manual gain control, regions of interest, image rotation, mirror control, and privacy masking to help adapt the image to different installation conditions.
Built-in Microphone, Speaker and Two-Way Talk
The IPEYE8MP includes both a built-in microphone and built-in speaker. Audio can be recorded together with video, and the speaker is used for active deterrence sounds, custom warning messages, and supported live talk functions. The camera also provides one RCA audio input and one RCA audio output for compatible external audio equipment.
Two-way talk compatibility is important to understand before purchase. Live two-way talk through the IPEYE8MP is supported when the camera is connected to a compatible Avalonix NVR and used with the Avalonix mobile app. Although the camera can send standards-based video to many third-party ONVIF recorders, two-way talk should not be expected to operate through an unrelated ONVIF NVR or third-party app.
If talking through the camera from your phone is an important requirement, we recommend using an Avalonix recorder rather than purchasing the camera solely for use with a third-party recorder. You can also browse our other two-way audio security cameras when comparing cameras with live audio capabilities.
Use with an Avalonix NVR or Compatible ONVIF Recorder
For the most complete integration, especially the supported Avalonix two-way talk workflow and access to compatible smart features, we recommend pairing the IPEYE8MP with an Avalonix NVR network video recorder.
The camera also supports ONVIF Profiles S, G, and T, allowing standards-based video integration with many compatible ONVIF NVRs. ONVIF is useful when a customer needs to add an IP camera to an existing recorder from another compatible manufacturer, but ONVIF support does not automatically mean every advanced feature will be shared between the camera and recorder.
SMD Plus events, tripwire and intrusion metadata, active deterrence controls, alarm functions, audio behavior, and other camera-specific features can vary when the IPEYE8MP is connected to a third-party NVR. If you are selecting a recorder or trying to understand what ONVIF compatibility does and does not provide, read our guide to choosing and using ONVIF IP cameras.
If your goal is primarily standards-based live video and recording, a compatible ONVIF recorder may be suitable. If you want the most complete feature integration, including two-way talk through the Avalonix app, use a compatible Avalonix NVR.
Record to an NVR, NAS, FTP/SFTP or microSD
The IPEYE8MP can be used as part of a conventional recorder-based installation or in applications that need additional edge and network storage options. The camera supports recording to an NVR as well as NAS, FTP, SFTP, and a microSD card with capacity up to 256GB.
On this product page, optional microSD storage can be selected when ordering. When purchased with a microSD option, the card is factory installed. Local storage can be useful for standalone recording or as an additional recording location when the camera is also connected to an NVR.
If you are planning a complete installation rather than adding an individual camera, browse our security camera systems for packages that combine cameras, recording, storage, remote viewing, and the accessories needed for multi-camera surveillance.
PoE Makes Wired Installation Easier
The IPEYE8MP is a wired PoE security camera that supports standard 802.3af Power over Ethernet. With PoE, electrical power and network data travel over the same Ethernet cable when the camera is connected to a compatible PoE NVR, PoE switch, or PoE injector.
For many home and commercial installations, this is easier than running separate network and power cables to each camera. A 12V DC power input is also provided for installations where separate low-voltage power is preferred.
Basic PoE consumption is approximately 3.5W. Maximum PoE consumption is rated at approximately 8.2W when demanding functions such as WDR, H.265 encoding, alternating red and blue warning lights, warm illumination, and the sound alarm are operating.
Outdoor Turret Camera with Flexible Mounting
The IPEYE8MP has an IP67 weather-resistant housing and a rated operating range from -40°F to +140°F. The turret, or eyeball-style, camera can be manually aimed after installation with an adjustment range of 0° to 360° pan, 0° to 78° tilt, and 0° to 360° rotation.
It can be installed on a suitable wall, ceiling, or soffit, while optional accessories allow more specialized mounting configurations. Junction box, wall-mount, pendant/ceiling, and pole-mount options can help route and protect cabling or position the camera correctly for the viewing area.
Who Is the IPEYE8MP Best For?
The IPEYE8MP is a strong choice for a homeowner or business owner looking for a 4K wired camera that combines human and vehicle detection with visible and audible deterrence. It is especially useful when you want the camera to provide color nighttime video, distinguish people and vehicles from other motion, watch virtual lines or protected areas, and actively respond with warning lights or sounds.
It is also a practical option for customers already using professional IP cameras who want to add active deterrence to selected locations instead of replacing an entire system. A business, for example, may use standard cameras throughout a building and place active deterrence cameras only at entrances, exterior doors, loading areas, or other locations where an immediate visual and audible response is useful.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much area can the IPEYE8MP see, and how far away can I expect useful detail?
The IPEYE8MP has a 3.6mm lens with an 89° horizontal field of view, which is a good general-purpose angle for home driveways, entrances, storefronts, loading areas, and similar locations. Its published DORI distances for the 3.6mm lens are approximately 361.8ft Detect, 144.7ft Observe, 72.5ft Recognize, and 36ft Identify. DORI describes expected image-detail levels under standardized conditions. It is not the distance at which the camera performs facial recognition, and this camera does not have a face-recognition feature.
Can this camera see in the dark, and will the night light be visible?
Yes, the IPEYE8MP is designed for low-light and nighttime use, but it uses a different approach than a traditional infrared camera. The F1.4 lens and 0.007 lux low-light rating allow it to capture available light, while a built-in warm white illuminator provides visible illumination rated up to 98.4ft. That visible light helps preserve color information at night and can also contribute to active deterrence. If you need invisible IR illumination rather than a visible white light, an infrared camera would be a better choice.
Can I mount the IPEYE8MP on a wall, ceiling, soffit, or pole?
Yes. The turret camera can be surface mounted on a suitable wall, ceiling, or soffit and manually aimed after installation. Optional mounting accessories are available for installations that need a junction box, wall arm, pendant or ceiling arrangement, or pole mount. The camera itself provides 0° to 360° pan adjustment, 0° to 78° tilt, and 0° to 360° rotation. Its IP67 rating makes it suitable for properly installed indoor or outdoor applications.
Can I connect this camera to a third-party ONVIF NVR?
Yes. The IPEYE8MP supports ONVIF Profiles S, G, and T and can be used with many compatible ONVIF NVRs for network video and recording. ONVIF compatibility does not mean every advanced camera feature will work through every third-party recorder. SMD Plus events, tripwire and intrusion metadata, active deterrence controls, audio functions, and other advanced features can vary by NVR. For the most complete feature integration, an Avalonix NVR is recommended.
Can I use my phone to talk to someone through the camera?
Yes, but there is an important compatibility requirement. The IPEYE8MP has a built-in microphone and speaker, but its live two-way talk feature is supported only when the camera is used with a compatible Avalonix NVR and the Avalonix app. Do not assume two-way talk will work through a third-party ONVIF recorder or third-party camera app. The built-in speaker can still be used by the camera for configured active deterrence sounds and warning messages.
