A 16 channel PoE NVR powers and records compatible PoE security cameras through the same cable. Run CAT5e or CAT6 network cable from each camera to a built-in PoE port. There's no separate power adapter to find a socket for at each standard PoE camera, and matched cameras give you plug-and-play setup.

You don't have to run every camera cable back to the recorder, either. Cameras in a network-connected garage or another part of your building can connect to a nearby PoE switch. AvaEye and Avalonix NVRs automatically discover compatible cameras on the same subnet. Those cameras still record to the same NVR and count toward its 16-camera limit.

What does 16 channel NVR mean?

A 16 channel NVR records up to 16 IP or PoE Cameras. Each channel is one camera connection, whether the camera plugs into the recorder or connects through your network. Video is stored on hard drives inside the NVR.

Do I need all 16 cameras to get started?

No. Start with the cameras you need now and add more later. For example, an eight-camera setup leaves eight channels free, so you don't have to replace the recorder when you add coverage.

Does every 16 channel NVR have 16 PoE ports?

No. Channels tell you how many cameras the NVR records; PoE ports provide direct camera connections and power. Most of our 16 channel NVRs have built-in PoE, including models with 16 ports. Check the port count when choosing your recorder.

Can a 16 channel NVR record 4K and 12MP cameras?
