16-channel PoE NVR for larger security camera installations

The Security Cameras Inc SCNVR16E is an NDAA-compliant 16-channel PoE network video recorder designed for homes, offices, retail stores, restaurants, warehouses, and small to midsize commercial properties. Sixteen built-in PoE ports allow compatible SCI cameras to connect directly to the recorder for power, video, and network communication without requiring a separate PoE switch for a standard 16-camera installation.

The recorder supports IP security cameras with resolutions up to 4K/8MP. It provides 112 Mbps of incoming recording bandwidth and 96 Mbps of outgoing bandwidth. Camera resolution, frame rate, compression, and bitrate should be configured so the combined video streams remain within the recorder's available bandwidth.

Video is recorded locally to one SATA surveillance hard drive. The manufacturer's listed specification supports a drive up to 10TB. Local recording does not require an internet connection or a monthly subscription. Internet service is only required for remote viewing, off-site notifications, email alerts, and other internet-based functions.

Remote viewing for a security camera system

Remote viewing with SCI View

Use the SCI View mobile app to watch live video and review recordings from compatible iPhone, iPad, and Android devices. The recorder must be connected to broadband internet service for viewing from another location.

Security camera software for Windows and Mac

Computer software and browser access

SCI View software for Windows and Mac provides a larger workspace for monitoring cameras, reviewing recordings, and managing compatible SCI systems. Plugin-free browser access is also available through supported web browsers for convenient local or remote system access.

Security cameras with intelligent video analytics

Smart events from compatible cameras

Compatible SCI cameras can send supported intelligent events to the NVR for recording, notifications, and event searches. Depending on the camera, available analytics may include human and vehicle detection, face detection, perimeter detection, and line crossing detection.

Internet connection is optional for local security camera recording

Internet is optional for local recording

The SCNVR16E can record and display connected cameras without internet access. Internet service is only necessary when remote viewing, push notifications, email alerts, or other off-site features are required.

NDAA compliant video surveillance equipment

NDAA compliant

The SCNVR16E is part of the Security Cameras Inc NDAA-compliant product line and is suitable for buyers and projects that require NDAA-compliant surveillance equipment.

Security Cameras Inc surveillance equipment

Designed for compatible SCI cameras

The recorder provides its easiest installation and broadest feature compatibility when paired with compatible Security Cameras Inc PoE cameras. Same-brand cameras support plug-and-play installation and may provide audio, smart events, and other advanced functions depending on the camera model.

112 Mbps recording bandwidth

The SCNVR16E accepts up to 16 IP camera channels and supports camera resolutions up to 4K/8MP. Its 112 Mbps incoming bandwidth determines the combined amount of video data the recorder can receive from connected cameras. The recorder also provides up to 96 Mbps of outgoing bandwidth for network video transmission and client viewing.

Bandwidth is shared across all connected cameras. Higher resolution, higher frame rate, and higher bitrate settings consume more bandwidth. Cameras can be configured at different resolutions and frame rates as long as the combined incoming streams remain within the recorder's 112 Mbps limit.

16 built-in PoE camera ports

Sixteen integrated PoE ports allow compatible IP cameras to receive power and transmit video over the same Ethernet cable. A separate PoE switch is not required for a normal installation with up to 16 compatible cameras connected directly to the NVR.

The recorder is powered by a 48VDC, 3.75A power supply. High-power PTZ cameras, heaters, illuminators, or other specialty devices should be checked for power compatibility before being connected to the built-in PoE ports.

4K HDMI output and 16-channel playback

The SCNVR16E provides HDMI output with display resolutions up to 3840 x 2160 4K and a VGA output supporting resolutions up to 1920 x 1080. A local monitor can be used for camera viewing, system configuration, recorded video searches, and video export.

The recorder supports simultaneous playback of up to 16 recorded channels. Actual playback performance depends on recording resolution and decoding requirements.

The manufacturer's listed aggregate decoding capacity is up to 45 fps at 4K, 90 fps at 4MP, or 180 fps at 2MP. These are combined decoding figures and should not be interpreted as the recording frame rate available to every camera individually.

H.265 and H.264 recording

The SCNVR16E supports H.265 and H.264 video compression. H.265 can reduce storage and network bandwidth requirements compared with H.264 when used with compatible cameras while maintaining useful surveillance video quality.

Recording retention depends on camera count, resolution, frame rate, bitrate, compression, and recording schedule. Lower bitrates and event-based recording can increase the amount of time stored on the installed hard drive.

Smart detection with compatible SCI cameras

The NVR can receive and organize supported events generated by compatible SCI cameras. Basic motion detection responds to changes in the video image, while compatible intelligent cameras can provide more specific event categories.

Depending on the connected camera model, supported camera-side analytics may include:

Available analytics depend on the connected camera. Check the individual camera description and the SCI guide hub before relying on a specific intelligent-video function.

Third-party ONVIF camera compatibility

The recorder can be used with compatible third-party ONVIF cameras for basic IP video integration. Feature availability varies by camera manufacturer, firmware, and ONVIF implementation.

Advanced functions such as audio, smart analytics, two-way audio, PTZ control, push notifications, camera configuration, and event integration are not guaranteed with third-party cameras. Compatible SCI cameras are recommended when plug-and-play installation and full supported functionality are important.

Local storage and video backup

The SCNVR16E contains one SATA hard drive bay. According to the manufacturer's listed specification, the recorder supports one surveillance hard drive up to 10TB. A hard drive can be selected when ordering the recorder.

Recording can be configured for continuous, scheduled, motion, manual, or supported smart-event recording. Actual retention varies according to camera settings and the amount of activity being recorded.

Use the security camera storage calculator to estimate recording time. Selected incidents can be exported through USB or downloaded through compatible computer software.

Remote viewing and notifications

The SCI View mobile app provides live viewing and recorded-video playback from compatible mobile devices. SCI View software for Windows and Mac provides computer-based monitoring and system management. The recorder can also be accessed through supported web browsers.

Supported events can trigger an audible beep, email notification, or mobile app push notification when properly configured. Internet access is required for off-site notifications and remote viewing but is not required for local recording.

Audio connections

The SCNVR16E includes one line-level audio input and one audio output. Audio functionality also depends on the connected cameras and the way the system is configured.
