32 Channel PoE NVR with 8 Hard Drive Bays
The Avalonix NVR8324PAI is a 32 channel network video recorder built for larger IP camera systems where storage space, camera capacity, and clean PoE wiring matter. Sixteen cameras can connect directly to the PoE ports on the back of the recorder. The remaining channels can be added over the local network using a separate PoE switch.
It is also a substantial step up in storage capacity from smaller NVRs. Inside the 2U chassis are eight SATA hard drive bays, with support for drives up to 20TB each. That gives installers room to build a recorder around the retention time the job actually calls for instead of being boxed into a two-drive or four-drive design.
Camera support reaches up to 16MP resolution, while H.265 and H.264 compression provide compatibility with both newer and older IP cameras. The recorder also works with ONVIF cameras and a range of third-party IP camera brands, making it useful for new installations as well as projects where compatible existing cameras need to remain in service.
16 Built-In PoE Ports, 32 Camera Capacity
The recorder has 16 built-in IEEE 802.3af/at PoE ports. A compatible PoE camera can be connected directly to one of these ports so the NVR supplies network connectivity and power over the same Ethernet cable.
For systems larger than 16 cameras, the other IP cameras can be connected through a compatible PoE switch on the same network. This makes the NVR especially useful when part of the installation is wired directly back to the recorder while another group of cameras terminates at a network switch elsewhere in the building.
The built-in PoE section provides a total power budget of 150W, with up to 25.5W available per port within that total budget.

Eight Hard Drive Bays for Longer Recording Time
Storage is one of the main reasons to choose this recorder. The NVR has eight internal SATA bays and supports hard drives up to 20TB per bay. A fully populated recorder can therefore support up to 160TB of raw drive capacity, although the manufacturer's maximum supported drive capacity can vary with operating temperature.
The advantage of eight drive bays is flexibility. A system that only needs moderate retention can start with fewer drives, while an installation that needs considerably more recorded video can use a larger multi-drive configuration.
This is particularly useful with 4K security cameras and other high-resolution cameras because higher bitrates consume storage faster than a basic 1080p camera system.
Up to 16MP IP Camera Recording
The NVR accepts IP camera streams from resolutions up to 16MP. That includes common 2MP, 4MP, 5MP, 8MP / 4K, 12MP, and higher-resolution IP cameras within the recorder's bandwidth and decoding limits.
With recorder-side AI disabled, the NVR supports up to 256Mbps of incoming, recording, and outgoing network bandwidth. When recorder-side AI processing is enabled, the available bandwidth is up to 180Mbps. This distinction is worth keeping in mind when planning a 32-camera system with high-resolution cameras and high frame rates.
The recorder supports Smart H.265+, H.265, Smart H.264+, H.264, and MJPEG video formats. This gives it useful compatibility with current cameras while still allowing older H.264 IP cameras to remain in service where appropriate.
Smart Motion and Event Detection
NVR8324PAI includes recorder-side video analytics for installations that need more useful event filtering than ordinary pixel-based motion detection. Smart Motion Detection can separate human and motor vehicle activity from common sources of false alarms such as rain, changing light, or moving vegetation.
Recorder-side processing supports SMD on up to four channels and perimeter protection on up to two channels. Perimeter rules can be used for events such as a person or vehicle crossing a defined line or entering a selected area.
Compatible AI security cameras can provide additional analytics to the recorder, including perimeter detection, SMD, face detection, face recognition, license plate recognition, people counting, stereo analysis, and heat map information. Available functions depend on the camera being used.
Face Detection, Recognition, and Search
For applications that use these features, the recorder can perform face detection and face recognition on one channel using its own processing resources. It supports up to 10 face databases containing a combined total of up to 20,000 face images.
Compatible cameras can also provide face detection and other smart events to the NVR. Recorded events can then be searched using supported target attributes and event types, which can save a considerable amount of time compared with manually reviewing hours of ordinary continuous video.
These functions are optional tools. The NVR can still be used as a conventional 32-channel network recorder without configuring face recognition or other advanced analytics.
Local Display, Playback, and Video Backup
For local viewing, the recorder provides HDMI and VGA outputs. HDMI supports display resolutions up to 3840 x 2160, while VGA supports up to 1920 x 1080. The HDMI and VGA outputs can be configured for the same or different display content depending on the installation.
Recorded video can be played back locally on up to 16 channels at a time. Backup is available through USB devices or over the network, giving the installer several ways to export recorded footage when needed.
The NVR includes two front USB 2.0 ports and one rear USB 3.0 port.
Alarm Inputs and Professional I/O
For installations that use external alarm devices, the recorder includes 16 alarm inputs and four alarm outputs. These connections can be used with compatible sensors, relays, and other alarm equipment as part of a larger camera system.
It also includes one RCA audio input and one RCA audio output, RS-232, RS-485, Gigabit Ethernet, HDMI, VGA, and three USB ports.
Third-Party IP Camera Support
The recorder supports ONVIF Profile S, Profile G, and Profile T interoperability. That gives installers more flexibility when adding compatible third-party IP cameras instead of being limited to one camera family.
The manufacturer's compatibility specification also lists third-party camera support from brands including Axis, Hanwha, Panasonic, Sony, Pelco, Arecont, and Canon. Actual feature support can vary by camera. Basic video may work through ONVIF even when manufacturer-specific analytics or plug-and-play functions do not.
