At CCTV Camera World, we take pride in providing top-notch support for our security products. This guide will walk you through the process of changing the IP address of a Security Cameras Inc™ (SCI) PoE camera from CCTV Camera World that's deployed over a PoE network, connected to a router, with an NVR on the same network. We'll also show how to configure the IP address using both a laptop and the NVR directly with a monitor.

Why Change the IP Address of Your PoE Camera?

There are various configurations for connecting cameras to your network, but it's crucial not to connect the NVR to the router using one of its PoE ports. Instead, connect the NVR using the LAN port. This guide will cover the recommended setup to avoid IP conflicts and ensure smooth operation.

Setting Up the Network

For the first part of the demonstration shown in the video below, we use a laptop connected to the router to access the NVR's web interface. The cameras are connected to a PoE switch, which is in turn connected to the router. Make sure to work with one camera at a time to avoid confusion and track IP assignments.

Changing the IP Address with the SCI Config Tool

  1. Download and Install: Install the SCI Config Tool on a Windows PC (you can download it here).
  2. Open the Tool: Allow it through the Windows Firewall if prompted. The tool will search your network for devices.
  3. Access the Device: Locate the NVR and connected camera. Click the Edit button to change the IP address of the camera.
  4. Set to Static: Avoid DHCP if possible to ensure the IP address doesn’t change during power outages. Manually assign a unique static IP after checking that it’s not already in use.
  5. Ping Test: Use Command Prompt to check for open IP addresses by typing ping 192.168.1.x where x is the desired IP number. Of course make sure you are setting an IP address according to the scheme of your network.

Changing the IP Address via NVR with HDMI Monitor

If you prefer not to use a laptop, you can also change the IP address of your PoE camera directly through the NVR using an HDMI monitor.

  1. Login to the NVR: Use the default graphical pattern or the password on the label.
  2. Access Channel Settings: Go to the main menu, select the channel tab, and open the device search menu.
  3. Edit IP Address: Select the camera and update its IP address to a static one, ensuring no conflicts on the network.
  4. Apply and Save: After updating, the system will display a success message.

Connecting PoE Cameras to the System

There are different ways to connect PoE cameras, including directly to the NVR or via a PoE switch. Using the LAN port for network communication is required as it offers higher data rates compared to standard PoE ports. Always set the camera IP addresses to static to maintain network stability.

Troubleshooting Tips

  • If you encounter an IP conflict, recheck your network settings and ensure each device has a unique IP.
  • Keep the router connected during the initial setup, as it provides DHCP services needed for configuration tools to work.

Conclusion

By following these steps, you can efficiently change the IP address of your SCI PoE cameras from CCTV Camera World. Whether using a laptop or directly through the NVR, proper configuration ensures reliable video monitoring.
