Smart PSS - How to download and install

This video will guide you how to install SmartPSS on your Windows computer and how to connect to a DVR or Camera on your network. You can download the software here: SmartPSS v1.16

Smart PSS - How to change the grid view

In this video we will show you how to change your grid view on Smart PSS to see different camera viewing options. Open Smart PSS and click the “Live Preview” icon in the top left. Smart PSS automatically opens up in a 4 camera grid configuration. Select your DVR and drag the cameras you wish to view into the grid square you wish to view it in. To change the grid configuration you will click the desired set up based on the grid icons on the bottom of the screen. You can view one single camera, 4 cameras, 6 cameras, 8 cameras, 9 cameras, 16 cameras, 20 cameras, and 36 cameras.

Smart PSS - How to use a two-way audio camera

In this brief video we show you how to pull up and talk with a two-way audio security camera that is compatible with our NVRs.

Smart PSS - Basic PTZ camera operation

Once you have Smart PSS open and your cameras are being displayed, you can begin to control your PTZ camera. It can be controlled from the grid format or double click the camera view to make it full screen. Two ways to control your camera are with your mouse on the camera display or with the PTZ controls on the bottom right of the screen. Using your mouse, you can pan left by clicking the mouse in the left side of the camera screen. Click to the right side to pan it back to the right. Click in the bottom to tilt down and click up top to tilt up. You can zoom in by clicking the magnifying glass on the controller as well as zoom out. Another way to zoom in is by using the 3D positioning. Simply draw a square with your mouse and the camera will zoom into that area. On the controller you can also use the arrows to pan the camera any direction you want.

Smart PSS - How to playback video

In this video we are going to show how to playback recorded video on Smart PSS. Open and login to Smart PSS. You will then click the playback icon in the top left of the screen; the video screen will load, and then select your DVR. Your cameras will be shown below. Click the block for the cameras you want to view. Below this, you will select a beginning and end time and date to view for those cameras. Click the search icon below and your camera streams will load into the designated fields. You can see that cameras in fields 1 and 2 are set to record in motion detection. Where you see yellow is the times when motion was detected and that camera has recorded. The camera in field 3 is recording 24/7 but signals motion detection where you see yellow marks. The camera in field 4 is set for basic 24 hour recording. To view your cameras, simply click on the timeline to view that time’s recording. For the cameras recording in motion detection, you must select an area highlighted in yellow. To see the yellow areas more clearly, you can scroll through the timeline to zoom in and select the recorded times more easily. If your cameras have audio, you can adjust the volume here, or mute by clicking the speaker icon. You can speed up the frame rate using this table and well as pause or stop playback. You can also sync your videos to playback all at the same recording time. If no motion was detected at the time for your cameras set to record on motion detection, their screen will come up blank as seen in fields 1 and 2.

Smart PSS - How to download video to your computer

In this video we show you how to download video using Smart PSS. First, open and log into the Smart PSS software. Click the playback icon in the top left of the screen. On the right side, select your DVR and then select which cameras you want to download from. Click the search icon at the bottom and your camera feeds for the dates and times selected will populate in the camera timeline. The times chosen are not necessarily the times you will be downloading. Sync your cameras so that they all play at the same start point. Adjust the marker on the timeline to the time which you want your download to start from. Click the scissor icon to the right and you will see a bracket appear. Fast forward the timeline to the end point of the video you want to download; another bracket will appear. The area between the brackets will be the video that you will be downloading; a popup will appear. Select the desired path you want this video to download. In this case we will download a folder on the desktop; format will be AVI. You will see a pop up explaining that in order to download, and your video playback will be paused. Select “OK” and your download will begin. Once the download is complete, minimize your Smart PSS screen. Open the video folder and you can see your downloaded video file. Double click on the file to open up and view the video.

  • How can we start SmartPSS software on Windows 7 client pc when desktop is started as restricted user?

  • You cannot. You have to install smart pss as a windows program. To install a program you need to have admin access in Windows.

  • I recently upgraded to Smart PSS 1.12.3 and it is set to run when Windows 10 starts. However, before the program loads I see a dialog box which reads:Challenge.exe - No DiskThere is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive I:.If I click on Cancel a couple of times the program starts normally and runs as expected. Furthermore, there is no drive I: on my computer (Windows 10 64-bit).How can I eliminate the error message? Thanks.

  • hello,i have 3 different screens with cameras - how can i make the screen switch up automatically?thanks

SmartPss is not fully compatible with windows 10 yet

  • Hi. I'm a contractor for an IT company in NYC. I've used SmartPSS on a Mac for a client and it works just fine. However, on my current client, every time I try to login remotely, it either times out or the admin user of the ADT hybrid NVR is immediately locked out and requires a power cycle to work again. I should note that ADT VideoView on iOS devices works perfectly, both remotely, and when on the local network using the internal IP of the NVR. The ADT support people are stumped as VideoView on a PC works fine as well. Any theories? I'm using the latest version of SmartPSS for Mac.

  • Post removed as problem solved.

  • hope this willbe solved as soon as possible. Admin rights for client PCs are the death sentence for IT security. So please fix this soon, tnx very much.

Only at the time of installation do you need to have admin rights, like you do for any application. Once installed, anyone with non-admin rights can use the program.

  • Hi Team i need help with confrontations, i have two site, both the site has same camera and software install, i have smart pss install in one of my main computer but i cant view another site live feeds on my main computer, i have tried to configure using exact IP address and other details. • I have two cameras that won't "zoom out." How can I reset them to their original view?

  • I just installed this software. It does ask for the administrator's credentials whenever I try to run it.

  • I am having the same problem. I installed it as an administrator and logged in the first time with administrator rights to configure it. Now I would like to run it with a non-Admin user account but it requires an Administrator's credentials.

  • CCTV Camera World May 16, 2016 at 11:07 pm

You can configure user accounts on the DVR and SmartPSS separately. See http://www.cctvcameraworld....

  • That doesn't really solve the problem. The issue is that the program requires a System Administrator password before it will even run. More specifically, the User Account Control dialog box comes up with the following prompt: "Do you want to allow the following program from an unknown publisher to make changes to this computer? To continue, type an administrator password, and then click Yes." If I go ahead and type in my administrator credentials, it runs great, but since my staff does not administrator privileges, they are unable to use the program.

Every new program installed on a client computer must be installed by the administrator. It is a normal part of windows security. Are you getting this prompt every time you run the program? If so, provide the windows version you are using.

  • I have a hootoo camera model HT-IP206, I installed PSS added cam as IP type during setup, when I click login it says login failed, I checked user & password, tried with dvr and nothing, is this cam supported by this software, yes all ports, ip addresses were double checked and re-typed several different ways but nothing, any suggestions as what to check ?

The SmartPSS software is meant for use only with Avalonix brand cameras.

  • I have a weird issue. I am running Smart PSS on my iMac. I can access my camera's at my stores remotely and view live video. But the live video on the 4 cameras at my store freeze after about 10 seconds. When I use my iPhone and the mobile software from Dahua to remotely view the live video from the 4 cameras at my store, it works with no freezing. Any suggestions on why the remote live video freezes on my iMac? Any information will be greatly appreciated.

The mobile apps are programmed to pull the Extra Stream by default so there is less network utilization. Smart PSS accesses the Main Stream in single and four camera views. Your upload bandwidth at on your internet connection is probably unable to keep up with the requirements to serve 4 main streams. Take a look at the attached pictures if you don't understand what main vs extra stream is.

  • CCTV Camera World June 3, 2016 at 9:42 am

Here are quick snapshots of what main stream and extra stream are. (Original video has been blurred intentionally).

  • Thanks for the reply...Can I configure Smart PSS on my iMac to use extra stream? Would that solve my issue? If so, where can I configure this in Smart PSS?Really appreciate your help!

  • CCTV Camera World June 6, 2016 at 5:43 pm

You should take a look at the snapshots carefully.

When you change routers or ISP, you will need to do port forwarding again on your router to allow traffic from your phone to come through your router's firewall and in to the DVR. Please read the article on port forwarding here: http://www.cctvcameraworld....And you can find specific port forwarding articles here: http://www.cctvcameraworld....For further assistance with networking, you can contact your internet service provider with port forwarding.

  • Can`t login with user name admin and password admin .. Help !!

  • Watanabe and OFP-bs are correct.Whenever you run Smart PSS on Windows 7 or above from a Windows non-Administrator account, it asks for an Administrator password. This should not be. A properly designed application should run from any account, administrator or non-administrator.I see there was some confusion about this point. Yes, the application must be INSTALLED from an administrator account. But I’m not talking about installation; I’m talking about running it. And I’m not talking about Smart PSS accounts either. I’m talking about Windows login accounts. The error I get when I run Smart PSS from a Windows non-administrator account is:Do you want to allow the following program from an unknown publisher to make changes to this computer? smartpss.exe, Verified publisher: unknownTo continue, type an administrator password, and then click YesSo the problem is, the EXE is unsigned. If you’re developing and distributing sensitive software over the Internet that monitors video surveillance systems, shouldn’t you at least take the effort to sign your code to put your customers at ease and keep Windows happy? C’mon now, how difficult can it be to sign the EXE??!?!
