Mini 8 Channel 4K NVR with 8 built-in PoE ports for customers looking for a cost effective security video recorder to start building a security camera system with network cameras. This is a network camera recorder for use with IP security cameras that are PoE (Power over Ethernet). It will store video from up to eight IP cameras, at resolutions up to 8 megapixels. The important point is that this NVR has 8 PoE ports which will power the cameras, making camera setup truly a Plug-n-Play setup when using our PoE IP cameras as shown here. Just plug each of the cameras using a network cable, and the NVR will automatically communicate with each camera for Setup and video transmission. You can find compatible PoE IP cameras here. The built-in PoE+ ports are also compatible with our Pan Tilt Zoom IP cameras. The built-in PoE+ switch can supply up to 80 Watts of total power. Since some PTZ cameras can consume more than 20W, be sure to account for the total power needed by the cameras you purchase.

This Network Video Recorder is a standalone video recorder and does not have to be connected to a computer. It is a computer itself, and comes with its own embedded processor and Linux Operating System which stays virus free. It will never need any maintenance from a computer IT person, saving you a lot of undue costs. It has a friendly easy to use graphical user menu that can be controlled using the included mouse with point & click. It has HDMI and VGA video outputs so you can view your security cameras on a HDTV without any loss in video quality. It even supports IP cameras with audio and can record sound from cameras with microphones. When viewing your cameras, you can view up to 8 cameras in a grid, or view each camera in full screen mode.

This 8 Channel NVR comes with 1 SATA port for one hard drive up to 6TB in capacity. If you need more room, you can set some or all of your cameras to record on motion detect only. It also has a USB port so you can connect a USB DVD burner or external hard drive to back-up short video segments. You can also back-up video via FTP. Be sure to use our security video storage calculator to determine which hard drive size is best for you.

This NVR comes with Free Technical Support from our team based in the USA. Most of the cameras we sell at CCTV Camera World are compatible with our security video recorders. If you are looking for compatibility with cameras purchased elsewhere, please be sure to review the IP camera compatibility list for this NVR.

If I order without a hard drive (and I did) NVR, is there a cable for it in the chassis and screws for mounting?

Question by: Larry J on: 2016-07-21

Yes there is a SATA cable included and the hard drive mounts to the bottom of the NVR chassis. You simply screw the hard drive in to the pre-drilled holes on the bottom of the chassis.

Will this work with Night Owl POE IP cameras?

Question by: Andrew on: 2017-06-08

Although Night Owl cameras are not directly compatible, you could fetch the video using onvif or rtsp to get video. However, motion, audio, and PTZ controls would not flow over.

Will the PoE ports on the NVR handle the wireless PoE AP (NB24)? If not, can I use a PoE+ injector after the NVR to power the NB24?

Are the PoE ports on the NVR active or passive?

Question by: Josh H on: 2017-12-13

PoE ports on the back of a PoE NVR are 802.3af/at compliant network ports that can transmit power on demand depending on the device on the other end. That device has to be 802.3af/at compliant to work as well with the NVR. IP cameras we sell are 802.3af/at compliant and will get power from the NVR. 802.3af/at is an intelligent PoE method as it only sends power when it confirms that the device connected to the port is 802.3af/at compliant, so the device doesn't get fried with power injection.

However, the NB24 comes with a passive PoE power injector that is not 802.3af/at compliant. That means it is not an intelligent type of PoE. It is called passive PoE, which means that it is always sending power. If you connect a device to the passive PoE injector's PoE network port that is other than the wireless radio it is meant for, that device will get fried and its warranty will become void.

You can connect a NB24, or the other wireless radios we sell to the back of any of our PoE NVR by following this guide: How to connect wireless cameras to your PoE NVR

Answer by: Tech Support on: 2017-12-13

I am looking to install your 8 channel NVR. My problem is I have two buildings that are connected by a single Cat 6 cable. Four of the cameras will connect directly to the NVR. This is my question:

Can I connect the remaining 4 cameras through an existing network? I am looking at a four channel PoE switch to connect the remaining four cameras to the network. Will this work?

Thank You

Question by: Miller Guice on: 2018-01-30

Yes you can easily add the four cameras up to 5MP from our IP camera selection to the built-in PoE ports on the back of this NVR. They will use the easy-to-use plug and play feature of the cameras and NVR to automatically recognize the cameras and assigning them an IP address on the NVR's internal network of 10.1.1.X.

You can connect additional cameras totaling up to eight cameras (including the cameras on the built-in PoE switch) using a PoE switch on your network.

a) You will need to configure cameras on your own PoE switch to an IP address that matches your network scheme.

b) You will need to configure the NVR's LAN NIC to match your network scheme.

You can learn how to do that using this article.

The cameras on the external PoE switch and the NVR's LAN port must be configured to be on the same network scheme/subnet, which would usually be for basic router configurations.

Answer by: Tech Support on: 2018-02-02

Can I simultaneously save to a NAS or an FTP server? What is the file format the NVR saves in? is it an avi or mp4? or something custom.

Question by: john on: 2019-03-27

The files would be saved to the FTP service running on your NAS server. The files are written in DAV format that envelopes crucial meta information that is used when playing back video from the playback software to populate the timeline with date and event information such as motion detection. For more on that please watch the video on this page on how to record security cameras to a FTP server.
