Our 16-channel 4K AI NVR is built for people who want pro results without babysitting their system. It pairs plug-and-play setup with real horsepower, so you can build a reliable surveillance system for home or business that records clean video, sends the right alerts, and stays stable over time.
Performance that holds up in the real world
Inside is a recorder that can handle 256 Mbps of total recording bandwidth (180 Mbps when onboard AI is enabled) across 16 channels. It supports cameras up to 16MP including 4K security cameras and records using H.265+ for major bandwidth and storage savings when used with H.265 cameras. There are 16 built-in PoE+ ports, so each camera runs on a single cable for power and video with plug-and-play setup using our PoE IP cameras. Storage scales to 64TB using four 16TB drives, which is what most sites need to keep weeks of footage.
Choose the camera resolution that fits your install. This NVR supports:
- 1080P IP cameras
- 4MP IP cameras
- 5MP IP cameras
- 8MP and 12MP IP cameras
- 16MP IP cameras
On a TV or monitor connected to the HDMI/VGA port, the NVR can show live video from all 16 cameras at once. During playback (reviewing recorded video), like all standalone systems, the NVR limits how many high-resolution streams it can decode at the same time:
- With AI off you can review up to 2 x 16MP, 4 x 8MP (4K), 8 x 4MP, or 16 x 1080p cameras
- With AI on you can review up to 1 x 16MP, 3 x 8MP, 6 x 4MP, or 12 x 1080p cameras
For multi-site viewing or large video walls, use our free Camera Monitoring Software (CMS) on Windows or Mac.
Smarter alerts, less noise
Pair this NVR with Avalonix Premium Series cameras to use AI inside the camera for guaranteed compatibility, performance, and predictable results (see our smart cameras). You can set practical rules like Tripwire, Intrusion, Abandoned Object, Missing Object, Heat Map, People Counting, Face Detection, and Smart Motion Detection with human/vehicle filtering . On compatible models, you can also add an ANPR camera (license plate recognition).
If you’re mixing brands, the NVR can also run built-in analytics on many ONVIF cameras: up to 1 channel of face detection/recognition, 2 channels of perimeter rules (up to 10 rules each), and 4 channels of smart motion detection.
Want mobile alerts? Download the free mobile app and enable push notifications for motion and smart events. There are no monthly fees. You can also get email alerts for motion and smart events with no monthly fees. A small but important detail: the system can notify you if a camera goes offline, so you’re not surprised later when you need footage*. Offline alerts are vital for commercial surveillance systems and even a legal requirement in industries such as cannabis cultivation.
Built to work the way you actually use it
Most customers want two things: automatic recording that never skips, and fast access when they need video. This NVR does both. You can record continuously, by schedule (calendar-based), on motion, on smart rules, or on alarm triggers. Backups are straightforward: export short fragments per camera to a USB drive at the unit, or pull clips over the network using the free Avalonix CMS software. If you prefer backup storage to the cloud, you can back up to FTP or NAS, or mirror to a second NVR for redundancy.
Alarm inputs and outputs for automation
Alarm I/O turns video into action. Tie camera detected motion events to real devices, or trigger recording from physical sensors. Two common setups we recommend:
- Motion to deterrent: when cameras detect motion or an intrusion rule, fire a siren or strobe from the NVR’s relay output.*
- PTZ linkage: when a tripwire on Camera A triggers, the NVR can call a preset on Camera B so a PTZ camera points and zooms exactly where you want.*
If you want to wire sensors, start with these guides: Trigger recording on a PoE system using a switch and Connect alarm sensors to a PoE NVR.
Compatibility and setup
We guarantee plug-and-play compatibility with Avalonix Premium Series PoE cameras and IP cameras. The NVR also supports ONVIF (Profiles T, S, and G) for many third-party brands; camera compatibility and feature depth varies by the camera’s firmware and requires testing by you as the user. Discovering compatible Avalonix cameras on your LAN is simple with IP Search. If you want full AI and one-tap setup, the Avalonix Premium Series cameras are the right match.
How this differs from big-box systems
We publish real performance numbers and stand behind them: 256 Mbps ingest (180 Mbps with AI), 16 PoE+ ports, and 64TB local storage so you can keep meaningful retention. You’re not locked into a closed ecosystem, and you’re not paying monthly just to view your cameras. Most important, you get practical tuning and how-to content from the same team that builds and supports these systems, so you’re not stuck guessing when it’s time to deploy rules or export evidence.
What you can expect day to day
Clean live view on a TV or monitor, quick search by timeline or event, and reliable push alerts from motion or event data sensed by Avalonix Premium Series Cameras when something worth knowing happens. If a camera drops, you’ll get a video-loss notification. If you want automation using sensors and sirens, you can wire them. And if you need help, our articles and support team speak the same language you see in this description.
